Research Assistant Intern
"The BiPP Network are a thoughtful and psychologically minded group of individuals who work hard to bring a wide range of timely, interesting and accessible learning events and reflective spaces to the African and Caribbean therapist community."
— Dr Roberta Babb (Registered Clinical Psychologist and Registered Forensic Psychodynamic Psychotherapist)
Bibek is an aspiring Educational Psychologist who is passionate about
developing his understanding of effective mental health provisions and interventions for young people, and inclusion within the education system. He holds an MSc in Education (Neuroscience and Education) along with an undergraduate Psychology degree. His current work as an HLTA (higher level teaching assistant) entails supporting vulnerable students who have been expelled from mainstream education, within an alternative learning provision setting. This support is varied, and can range from working with students who display challenging behaviour, teaching PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) lessons to providing 1:1 support when required. Bibek’s Master’s thesis explored racial microaggressions experienced by BME university students which highlighted the need to improve the educational experiences of BME students within educational settings.
With an awareness of the lack of representation of BME professionals within
Psychology and Education, Bibek was keen to join the BiPP network as a
Research Assistant Intern to promote and increase participation of BME
students in Psychology. Bibek also hopes to become a mentor for Psychology students in the future, supporting them in their career and academic pursuits. By joining the BiPP team, Bibek hopes to network with like-minded individuals and work towards developing personal academic skills, whilst becoming better equipped in addressing racial disparities and inclusion within education and mental health. Bibek is keen to contribute towards BiPP’s research projects and responsibilities and is looking forward to supporting and engaging with our members.
