"The BiPP Network are a thoughtful and psychologically minded group of individuals who work hard to bring a wide range of timely, interesting and accessible learning events and reflective spaces to the African and Caribbean therapist community."

—  Dr Roberta Babb (Registered Clinical Psychologist and Registered Forensic Psychodynamic Psychotherapist)

Sarah is a Trainee Clinical Psychologist who works with both adults and young people with a range of mental health disorders including depression and anxiety. Prior to this, Sarah read for a degree in Experimental Psychology at Oxford University and later completed an MSc in Affective Disorders at King’s College London. Sarah’s experience of working within NHS mental health services, highlighted multiple challenges intersecting with her identity as a Black woman. Consequently, Sarah campaigned, researched, and wrote extensively on the experiences of Black British individuals’ in the UK mental health system, both as service users and practitioners, with features in The Psychologist magazine and the recent anthology ‘The Colour of Madness’.

Sarah’s work within the BiPP Network is grounded in building a community of support, both physically and online, in a field that can be challenging for BME mental health practitioners. This is demonstrated through events she has facilitated, such as the 'Managing Anxiety & Finding Strength in Community: Reflective Practice’ series for doctorate in clinical psychology applicants and the 'Racial Trauma & Wellbeing’ event in response to George Floyd’s death and the rising racial tensions across the world. Sarah hopes to continue connecting BME mental health professionals from all over the UK and beyond, whilst part of an organisation such as BiPP that provides the space and education on decolonisation in psychology and models of Black and African-Centered therapies – essential teaching that was excluded from her own psychological training.
